Amid a chaotic news cycle about his alleged drug use on the 2024 campaign trail, Musk arrived with a bruise at his final White House photo op — and said his son X Æ A-12 gave it to him

Elon Musk and President Donald Trump gave a joint press conference at the White House on Friday, May 30, to mark the end of Musk’s tenure as a special government employee.
The press conference began with Trump extolling the victories of the first four months of his second term in office, however, most eyes were on Musk.
For the Oval Office occasion, the Tesla CEO sported a “DOGE” hat — referencing his role heading up the Department of Government Efficiency — and a T-shirt that read “The Dogefather” in The Godfather movie’s font.
Most notably, though, Musk arrived with an immediately noticeable bruise on his right eye.
Speculation over the black eye quickly went viral on social media, with many on Musk’s X platform questioning what had happened.
“Is it just me or does @elonmusk look a bit bruised up on his right eye?” one user wondered. “Did he get into a tussle or something?”
Musk’s AI-generated X reply bot, grok, answered most users’ questions by saying, “There’s no confirmed evidence of a bruise on Elon Musk’s eye as of May 30, 2025.”
Later, when answering questions from the press, one reporter asked if Musk would explain what happened to his face.

After attempting a joke that he wasn’t “anywhere near France” when it happened — a reference to French President Emmanuel Macron’s viral slapping incident with his wife, Brigitte, on May 25 — Musk hesitated for a moment about sharing the backstory, during which President Trump remarked that he didn’t notice the injury.
After a few seconds, Musk said that he got the bruise while roughhousing with his 5-year-old son, X Æ A-12, whom he calls “Little X.”
“I was walking around with Little X and I said, ‘Go ahead and punch me in the face,’ and he did,” Musk claimed. “I didn’t really feel much at the time but I guess it bruises up.”

Friday’s press conference came just hours after The New York Times released a bombshell report about Musk’s alleged drug habits while he was working his way into Trump’s inner circle.
Citing sources close to the SpaceX CEO, the Times claims that Musk admitted to people around him that he used ketamine frequently, sometimes daily, to the point that it had started to damage his bladder. A September 2022 study by the National Institute of Health notes that “significant side effects on the urinary tract are associated with frequent recreational ketamine use.”
According to the newspaper, Musk also allegedly used ecstasy and hallucinogenic mushrooms, and was known to travel with a pill box that contained Adderall, the ADHD treatment drug, which can be a stimulant for some.
The Times‘ sources pin Musk’s drug abuse to 2024, as the SpaceX CEO was ramping up support for Trump’s reelection campaign, donating nearly $275 million. It’s unclear whether or not the alleged drug use followed him into the White House, however, public displays of erratic behavior — such as proudly displaying a Nazi-like salute and wielding a chainsaw onstage at a political conference — continued after the inauguration.
When asked about the New York Times article by reporters on Friday, Musk immediately interrupted the question to fire back at the outlet.
“New York Times, is that the same publication that got a Pulitzer Prize for false reporting on the Russiagate? Is it the same organization? I think it is!” he said. “I think the judge just ruled against the New York Times for their lies about the Russiagate hoax, and that they might have to give back that Pulitzer Prize.”
Trump has previously claimed that the Times and The Washington Post won Pulitzers for “totally incorrect reporting” about alleged collaboration between members of Trump’s inner circle and Russia during the 2016 presidential election.
