Keyshia Cole can relate to GloRilla.
In a new interview on Angela Yee’s Way Up radio show, the R&B icon recalled getting arrested for driving under the influence in 2002 and opened up about sympathizing with the “Tomorrow 2” rapper, who was arrested on DUI charges in April 2024, about the matter.
“I got signed when I was 21,” explained Cole. “I got a DUI that night.”
“I was actually talking to GloRilla. I was like, ‘Oh yeah, ‘cause you did get a [DUI].’ She was like, ‘Yeah, yeah. I got a DUI.’ I was like, ‘Girl, me too. It’s okay.’ When I was young, man,” added the “Let It Go” singer.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, about 34 people die in drunk-driving crashes every day in the United States. The organization also reported 12,429 people died as a result of “alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths” in 2023.

Cole then recalled the story of her own DUI. “I was listening to Tupac, and the police pulled me over and said, ‘See? That’s why you’re going to jail right now, listening to Tupac.’ It was still loud, and I was getting out of the car, like, it was my birthday. That day was my birthday,” she said.

“They came to my little listening event or whatever that was, and I was turning 21 [on] Oct. 15, and [brother Sean Cole] was there, and I had shots. I was drinking and driving my little Acura Legend, hello, and boom — got pulled over,” continued the Grammy-nominated artist.
“That’s a lot of my lessons that I learned early on, the fighting and getting sued,” reflected Cole, as Yee mentioned the star’s falling out with fellow emcee Eve over a physical altercation with someone who allegedly disrespected the “Who’s That Girl?” musician while they were spending time together. “I was a fighter.”

Elsewhere during the conversation, Cole spoke about her feelings toward GloRilla after the “Wanna Be” rapper debuted a song sampling her own classic hit “Love” in her set at Coachella in April.

“I like Glo,” she said. “She remind me of me. She little, petite, crazy, talk s—, funny. She’s so cute, and I like the way she be rapping. So, she’s cool.”
Cole is currently gearing up to embark on a North American arena tour to celebrate her beloved 2005 debut album, The Way It Is, kicking off July 1 in Baltimore.
