The happy couple has been making the rounds promoting their new Peacock reality TV show, ‘Nelly and Ashanti: We Belong Together’

Anyone who’s seen Nelly and Ashanti since they rekindled their relationship can objectively say: the two look happier than they have ever been. Not only are they almost inseparable — they’e attended every major red carpet together — but it seems like in every interview, they just can’t stop giggling.
In fact, their dynamic is so infectious, fans have generated several memes of the pair from their various outings — all of them noting how Nelly and Ashanti are constantly cheesing, cracking jokes and how they seem to have a good time together.
Nelly and Ashanti’s love story is one of the best Hollywood comeback stories in recent pop culture history. The two first got together in the early aughts, initially meeting in 2003. Like the charmer he is, Nelly asked for her autograph as a way to break the ice, and she obliged.

“I think one of the first times was at the Grammys,” the “Rock wit U (Awww Baby)” singer said on the first episode of their Peacock reality TV show, We Belong Together. “He asked me for my autograph. There’s a picture, I think, it’s me, him and Avril Lavigne.”
Nelly corroborated the meet-cute, saying, “I guess I was tryna to be slick, checking the temperature.”
The two were on and off in the decade that followed and, for the bulk of that, were so low-key about their relationship, you had to be super dialed in to even know they were even together. The musicians then broke up in 2013, and were apart for years before they ever set eyes on each other again.
The tide turned in 2021, however, when they both attended Ja Rule and Fat Joe’s Verzuz battle, where Nelly delivered the hug seen (and heard) around the world. Things would roll out organically in the following eyars as the two started hanging out again, performing together and even throwing mega birthday bashes for each other.
Not wasting any time, Nelly and Ashanti secretly got married on December 27, 2023, and eight months later, they welcomed their first child together, son Kareem Kenkaide Hayes, whom they affectionately call KK.

And while Nelly and Ashanti say much is different about their relationship now — how they communicate, his patience, her ways of showing appreciation — fans of the two have noticed they have also been more open about their love. Not only are they opening up in interviews about their (re)union and their journeys as parents, but they are starring in an entire reality TV show about their first year of marriage, titled Nelly and Ashanti: We Belong Together.
Fans have immediately been taken by their dynamic. One particular scene in the first episode is already making the rounds on social media.

Nelly Compares His First Time Dating Ashanti to Taking a ‘Test Drive’ Before Buying a Car (Exclusive)
As it goes, Ashanti wants to get a new luxury mattress since the couple is still in the process of settling in, and while Nelly is all for getting new furniture, the starting price tag of $76,000 for the “sleeping instrument” is a bit too luxurious for the Country Grammar rapper. She then tries to play it off, saying it’s good for his problematic shoulder, to which he responds, “My shoulder? Damn my shoulder. I will roll the f— over!” as she dies laughing.
What’s so sweet about that moment is just how unfiltered they are. The entire interaction is full of the type of banter and playfulness that only comes with familiarity. He gets to unabashedly tease her and she laps it in, roaring in contagious laughter the whole time.
In another cute moment, the Grammy winners are in full mommy and daddy mode as they watch Jools TV — a kids program with songs and nursery rhymes — and put their own spin on one of the show’s tunes.
She bops along, two bottles of breastmilk in her hands, as he offers those St. Louis adlibs only he can. The moment is quick, but fans have already grabbed on to it because the Nelly and Ashanti of the early aughts wouldn’t have given us that. It’s just so pure and wholesome and shows that parenthood is parenthood, no matter who you are.

I could go on to list 25 more moments where Nelly and Ashanti made me laugh — when he joined her in the gym and let it be known that he loves her body as it is; when he playfully offered to sing the national anthem in her place at Yankees Stadium; when they sparred over who was the better team Dodgers or Yankees — but the truth it’s really just better to watch it for yourself.
Nelly and Ashanti’s relationship didn’t take the conventional road, but it’s certainly heartwarming to see that sometimes, spinning the block does work.
Nelly and Ashanti: We Belong Together is available for streaming on Peacock.
