Charlize Theron’s new hairstyle was not popular in her household.
The actress, 49, appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Tuesday, June 24, where she revealed what her family and friends thought about the mullet she rocked while filming her new movie The Old Guard 2.
“This was not a prop mullet. This was a real mullet?” Seth Meyers, 51, asked. “No, that’s a real mullet,” Theron confirms.
“You had to be around friends and family with an actual mullet,” says Meyers. “And so I’m wondering, you know, I know you have a loving family. You’ve got a couple of kids. How did they feel about the mullet?”
“I have two girls, and they’re very…they’re mostly very girly. And they think of me as a princess,” Theron says of her daughters Jackson, 12, and August, 9. “And they want Mom to look like a princess.”

The star explains that her personal style tends to veer more into “edgy” and “masculine.”
“But they came back from school. I was in my bathroom and I was getting it cut and it had already been colored,” Theron remembers. “And I just remember looking over and they both came into the room really excited, and then they just both froze. And they just went…and one started crying.”
“One literally started bawling her eyes out,” she says. “And I had to actually sit down with her and say, ‘We all get to be who we want to be. And right now, Mom wants to wear a mullet.’ I don’t tell you what to do with your hair.”
“‘I still don’t like it,’ ” Theron says, mimicking one of her daughters.

The actress has said in the past that her daughters aren’t big fans of her movie career in general. Back on a May episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Theron shared a glimpse into what her daughters really think about their actress-mom.
Host Jimmy Kimmel asked the decorated actress if her kids are wowed when they see her on billboards and in films.
“My children have zero respect for me,” Theron replied. “It’s just unbelievable. I feel like I’m pretty humble, but every once in a while I’m like, ‘There’s a f—— Oscar right there.’ They are so not impressed with me.”
The Max Max: Fury Road star went on to recall a recent instance where one of her kids was more fascinated by another movie star than her, despite having both starred in action flicks.
“I was picking up my youngest from dance yesterday and we drove past the new Mission Impossible poster where Tom Cruise is hanging onto some yellow plane, and he just looks really cool,” Theron said.
“My kids were with me when I shot Old Guard 2, and I worked on this incredibly intricate sequence where we brought in this amazing helicopter pilot, Fred North. And we were gonna choreograph me fighting helicopters and jumping on this real helicopter and hanging off,” she continued. “Shooting 99% of it on a real helicopter as it’s trying to shake me off like a rag doll.
“We took like two weeks to shoot this sequence and I was like, ‘Wow, I just did that, that’s really amazing.’ And my child yesterday just looked at this poster of Tom Cruise and went, ‘It’s weird, he looks so much cooler than you did when you were hanging off the helicopter.’ “
“I was just like, ‘I hung off the helicopter, [can I have] some credit?’ ” she joked.
