The soccer legend will become ‘Sir David Beckham,’ while his wife, Victoria, will know be addressed as ‘Lady Beckham’

David Beckham is set for a major upgrade — the English soccer legend has officially been named for knighthood by King Charles.
The honor, announced as part of the monarch’s birthday honors, recognizes Beckham’s iconic sporting career and his lasting contributions to British society. The official investiture ceremony will take place at a later date.
With this honor, his wife, Victoria Beckham, now carries the title Lady Beckham.
Beckham, 50, is widely celebrated as one of the greatest players of his generation. He launched his career with a record-breaking stint at Manchester United, where he won the Premier League title six times over nine years. He was the first English player to reach 100 Champions League appearances and the first to claim league titles in four different countries: England, Spain, France and the United States.
The right-winger was also captain of the English national team for six years, appearing in three FIFA World Cups and two UEFA European Championships. He was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2008, and the Premier League Hall of Fame in 2021.

After stepping back from his playing career, Beckham became part-owner of the MLS club Inter Miami in 2020. He also continued his philanthropic work, having been an ambassador for UNICEF since 2005.
Beckham was appointed an Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth in 2003, but it’s no surprise that King Charles decided to knight him now. The soccer star was asked to be an ambassador for the King’s Foundation in 2024.
“I’m excited to be working with The King’s Foundation and to have the opportunity to help raise awareness of the charity’s work,” He said in a statement at the time.
“I’ve always been keen to help young people to expand their horizons and I’m particularly looking forward to supporting the Foundation’s education programs and its efforts to ensure young people have greater access to nature,” e continued.
“Having developed a love for the countryside, I’m also on a personal mission to learn more about rural skills which is so central to the Foundation’s work,” David added.
