Beckham was named for knighthood during the King’s birthday celebration last week

David Beckham shared a heartfelt Instagram post after King Charles named him for knighthood.
David, 50, posted a photo of himself having lunch with his mother at Tony’s Pie and Mash in London, on Monday, June 16.
In the Instagram post, the star athlete wrote, “Lunch with Mum , haven’t seen her since the news 🥹 mum cried when she arrived , cried during lunch and cried when I was leaving x special moment for us all ❤️ love you mum x @sandra_beckham49 ( Dads next 😂) @tedbeckhamdavid 🥹 @tonyspieandmash 💚.”
On Friday, June 13, it was announced that David was officially named for knighthood by King Charles. The official investiture ceremony will take place at a later date.

In the comment section, his mother, Sandra Beckham, wrote, “Love you more ❤️was emotional people saying congratulations Sir 😢 see tears again 😂 xx.” The restaurant, a frequent spot for the Beckham family, additionally chimed in to celebrate, “Such a special moment for you all. Always lovely to see you all 💚.”

With this honor, his title is Sir David Beckham, with his wife, Victoria Beckham, becoming Lady Beckham.
The couple’s son Romeo Beckham also celebrated the good news. Romeo shared an Instagram Stories photo of himself and his father smiling together in a blurry image. “So so proud of you 🤍🤍🤍🤍,” the 22-year-old wrote. David later reposted the photo to his own Instagram Stories.
The couple also share sons Brooklyn, 26, Cruz, 20 and daughter Harper, 13.

David is no stranger to working closely with the royal family. He was appointed an Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth in 2003 and was later asked to be an ambassador for the King’s Foundation in 2024.
“I’m excited to be working with The King’s Foundation and to have the opportunity to help raise awareness of the charity’s work,” he said in a statement at the time.
