The new series debuts Aug. 1 on Apple TV+

Jason Momoa had a special night walking the red carpet with his loved ones by his side.
At the Chief of War premiere on July 18, in Ko Olina Park in Hawaii, the actor was joined by his son Nakoa-Wolf, 16, and daughter Lola, 18 — who he shares with ex-wife Lisa Bonet — as well as his girlfriend Adria Arjona.
Momoa marked the sweet moment with his kids by wearing coordinating “family capes,” as he tells PEOPLE.

Momoa wore black pants and a black shirt with his hip-length cape featuring a red and yellow triangular pattered. Nakoa-Wolf wore a similar outfit, with his cape draped over one shoulder, and sported a necklace that is similar to the one Momoa wears in the series. Lola sported a brown cutout maxi dress with a shorter cape draped over her shoulders.
Arjona, in turn, wore a flowy, floor-length maxi dress, featuring a long train and a deep-V neckline, and was all smiles posing on the red carpet with Momoa.

In March, Momoa described Chief of War as a Hawaiian story “rooted in my home, my culture, and my heart.”
The series was co-created by the actor and Thomas Pa‘a Sibbett and is based on true events surrounding the unification of the Hawaiian islands as they face colonization from the West in the late 1700s.
According to Apple TV+, Chief of War “is a passion project for creators Momoa and Sibbett, who share native Hawaiian heritage.” Momoa also wrote and executive produced the project.
“It’s the greatest moment of my career,” Momoa tells PEOPLE on the carpet. “Yeah, it’s the greatest moment of my career, and yeah, you want to have your loved ones [there].”
In a sweet moment captured by PEOPLE, Momoa pauses his interview to give a quick hello to his kids. “Hi son, hi daughter!” he says from across the carpet.

Momoa’s children are used to joining their father in the spotlight. In the spring of 2024, during Momoa’s concert in Los Angeles, the actor invited his daughter on stage with him, where they sang a cover of Amy Winehouse’s hit song “Valerie.”
